HOW TO STAY IN SHAPE WITHOUT TRACKING OR COUNTING YOUR FOOD

Here’s what you probably need to know about people who don’t count/track food and are still in shape.

Health and fitness is a big part of their identity. In other words, some people don’t have to count, or track food intake because their life puts them in a place that makes being in shape the default.

So how do they do this and what are some things you might see :

  • They enjoy exercise and do it consistently. Most likely because they found something they love.

  • They probably don’t drink a lot of alcohol. Now we know that it might not be so easy for everyone, especially if you live in the UAE. Abu Dhabi has some great brunches over weekends and it is one of the biggest ways people spend their weekends. You only have to look on the Entertainer to find a few. (By the way - did you know Elite Fitness is also on the Entertainer? - LOL - not for brunches - but you can find some amazing Personal Training Offers)

  • They don’t snack that much,

  • They might not eat out as much as most people.

  • They reduce the liquid calories they consume

  • They naturally gravitate toward whole foods. Picking the salmon over the fried calamari and fries without even thinking about it comes naturally. They think, “A fresh salad would be nice”, and really mean it. I mean, the NOLUS Build Your Own Salad comes to mind…mmmm

  • They have a plan. Prepping meals in advance and keeping healthy backup options on hand is a regular part of your weekly routine now.

  • They developed strategies for staying on track.

  • They don’t “mess up” anymore. They still eat the birthday cake and the Christmas cookies and the tub of popcorn at the movie theater. They don’t consider it as “bad” any more. They’re just an occasional part of enjoying life. Straight after they go back to eating mostly fresh, whole foods like they always do.

This “default” or lifestyle might not necessarily have happened overnight and in many cases counting or tracking food was part of the learning- and process to establish this default you witness.

Don’t let someone’s default eating success make you think you’re a failure if you need to pay more attention and track food. This world we live in is not set up for us to eat well and tracking helps. It’s not an essential and not something you have to do forever but it can be of benefit to some.
